Roaring Railroads
Eden loves trains so we thought it would be fun to take her to Roaring Railroads. It's a train ride that goes through the redwoods near our house. We also thought that it would be a good way for all of us to celebrate Markham's 37th birthday. Eden had a blast. Colton slept most of the time. Markham and I enjoyed the walk we took after the train ride when both Eden and Colton slept in the stroller. It was a beautiful day!

An Easy Baby
Another example of how Colton is an easier baby than Eden...
We parked him on his play mat while we ate dinner. Without complaining, he sucked on his pacifier and eventually fell asleep. Eden would never have done that as a baby!

Little Buddy
I'm not sure if you can tell from this picture, but Colton's hair keeps getting lighter. It's a light brownish-reddish color now.

Party Girl
Eden is a party girl. She loves to be out -- anywhere! She loves to see new things and watch people. As you can see in this video, she's doing her happy dance because we were out of the house and eating at a restaurant by the beach.

Our 6th Wedding Anniversary
Markham and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary by going on a romantic night out...with our kids. Ah well, I guess that's our life right now. We'll have to take a rain check on doing anything alone as a couple for a while. The good news is that the kids were really well behaved at dinner. Eden loved being out and loved eating her fettuccine alfredo. She kept telling us that we couldn't have any of it or take it away. Colton needed to be held and I had to eat with one hand, but otherwise, he was pretty quiet. How our lives have changed in six years!!

Holding Baby Brother
It's a little scary to let Eden hold Colton, but she is always asking to hold him. Kissing him on the foot no longer satisfies this little girl. Here she is in a rare, supervised hold. She is still clumsy, but seems to be getting gentler with him. She really loves being a big sister.

Uh Oh!
For a long time, we were relieved to think that he had a child who didn't care much for watching t.v. Ever since I went on bed rest, we became more reliant on the ipad and Eden developed a liking for Barney. Now, she can completely entertain herself with Barney videos. The downside is that she always wants to watch the ipad...and we have those awesome Barney songs stuck in our heads all day.
He Likes the Pacifier!
Ahhh...Colton seems so much easier than Eden was as a baby. Eden never wanted the pacifier. She took it after about 7 months and at that time, it was only a play thing for her. Colton doesn't love the pacifier, but he likes it enough to let it do its job and pacify him. That's good enough for me!

Santa Cruz Seals
Eden went to the pier with Nana and Papa and saw the seals for the first time. She loved them! We ended the outing with a trip to Marini's candy store where Eden picked out gummy bears. She then proceeded to only eat the yellow gummy bears because she is obsessed with the color yellow. A good ending to a fun day!

Hanging out with Auntie Tammy and Nana
Colton and I had fun hanging out with Tammy and Nana. We ate lots of good food and drank some good wine. Eden also loved visiting with Auntie Tammy. She designated a special seat at the table for Tammy which means that you're really somebody in Eden's world.

One Month Old
I can't believe that Colton is already one month old. Time is flying by! Here are some things I've observed about Colton:
- He loves music. He falls asleep very quickly if he's listening to some tunes. His favorite seem to be softer music from the '60s and '70s.
- His eyes are a dark grey and brown color. I know this is a typical color for babies, but I can't tell what the final color will be -- hazel like his dad's and Eden's, or brown like his mom's. It could go either way.
- His hair keeps getting lighter. When we first came home from the hospital, his hair looked dark brown. Now, it's a lighter golden brown color.
- Colton likes to eat every two hours. I keep trying to extend his eating time to 3 hours, but it's been difficult. He typically eats for 5 minutes and then passes out. I can't wake him! In contrast, his sister used to eat for at least 15 minutes at his age. No wonder she had all of those jelly rolls!
- Colton gets up every 2-3 hours at night to eat, but falls asleep pretty quickly when he's done. He already seems like a better sleeper than Eden. Not hard to do, but thank God!
- He follows noises by turning his head, likes to look at light, and has made a little bit of eye contact. In a rare moment, he actually giggled at his Nana.
